Earth Hour March 28 8:30pm

Earth Hour is a global initiative to engage individuals, businesses, governments, and organizations around the world to turn off their lights for one hour (Earth Hour) and make a collective statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions.

Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when more than 2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008, the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people in 35 countries switching off their lights.

Now, more than 2,000 cites, towns, and municipalities in 82 countries have joined the 2009 campaign. Locally, the District of Columbia, Arlington, Fairfax County, Fall Church, Baltimore, Montgomery County, and the City of Greenbelt are registered as participants. The goal for this year is to have 1 billion people participate by turning out their lights.
